The spirit
What comes before the house, and what guides it.
The storyA family house
Over twenty years ago, a grandmother entrusted a young man with a sheepfold, set for centuries upon a thousand-year-old stone of the Var. It had watched the seasons and the harvests go by, men and starlit nights; it had known the deep silence of mornings and the fury of the summer heat. What was handed down was not a possession, but a memory — and the duty to carry it on. From this legacy Amor Fati was born: a house meant to honour what was passed down, and to pass it on in turn, intact and more beautiful.
Behind the house is a family that shapes it. Here, one does not restore to sell nights; one continues a story. What is decided — a shade, an olive tree kept, a wall preferred weathered rather than made new — is decided together, calmly, as a family does.
The values that guide the place are those of a transmission: patience over haste, simple beauty over show, respect for what stood before us. There are houses one visits; others one does not forget. This one wishes to be among the latter.
The philosophyThe spirit of Amor Fati
Amor fati — to love one’s fate. Not to endure what is, but to love it. To look at a place as it gives itself — its stone, its vines, its silence — and to answer with care rather than constraint.
This guides every gesture here. We do not seek to impose a décor, but to reveal a place. Nothing is moved, nothing is forced: the house arises from what already exists. Time is not an adversary to be hidden, but an ally that weathers and embellishes. What it touches, it does not spoil — it reveals.
From this follows a certain idea of luxury: not abundance, but rightness. Ten beautiful objects rather than fifty. Silence rather than bustle. True materials — the stone of the Var, wood, cool water — rather than gloss. One comes here to slow down, to rediscover the taste of simple, lasting things.
To love one’s fate, here, is to love this place for what it is. And to pass it on intact to whoever will, in turn, take care of it.
Transmit — To prepare a house for those who will come.
Reveal — To let time and light do their work.
Slow down — The luxury of silence and simple things.
